Becoming a Client

When You’re Ready To Take Advantage of Our Wise Counsel

When you make that first call to our office, a member of our team will gather some preliminary information from you – basic contact info, what brought you to Savant, which office is most convenient, and a general overview of your most pressing concerns.

The first step is a complimentary initial consultation with one of our financial advisors. We’ll work with your schedule to find a meeting time that’s convenient for you. The consultation takes about an hour and a half, and is an opportunity for you to sit down with an advisor, learn more about what we do and how we can help. We’ll learn more about you and your needs, and from there you decide how to proceed.

Of course, the process of considering becoming a Savant Wealth Management client will move at your chosen pace. You will feel no pressure. But if you do decide to become a client, we will schedule a meeting so you can review and sign the paperwork needed to open accounts. The transfer process can take several weeks. During that waiting time, we can set up online access to your custodian for you. Once your account is funded, we will set up an online MySavant Portal if you elect to have one. You will be notified through your custodial statements that your accounts are open and funded. Then comes the exciting part: the shared pursuit of your Ideal Future.

Schedule a call to learn more about the path to your ideal future.

Onboarding FAQs

Q: What is a fiduciary?

A: A fiduciary is someone who manages the assets of another person and stands in a special relationship of trust, confidence, and/or legal responsibility. Savant is a Registered Investment Advisor, which means we are required by law to act in our clients’ best interests. We take this responsibility very seriously.

Q: What is your fee structure?

A: Our fees are based on a percentage of assets managed. Your financial advisor can provide more specifics.

Q: What does “fee-only” mean?

A: Savant serves as a true fiduciary. “Fee-only” means the only compensation we receive is from our clients. We don’t accept commissions of any kind, nor do we accept finder’s fees, 12b-1 fees, sub-TA fees, revenue sharing arrangements, or soft dollars. Our costs are easily ascertainable and transparent and are only comprised of our fees and custodial fees.

Q: Is financial planning part of your service?

A: Yes. Financial planning is included for our wealth management clients.

Q: What makes you different from a brokerage house?

A: Unlike a brokerage house, Savant does not generate commissions by buying and selling securities, nor do we offer proprietary products that need to be “pushed.” We have no conflicts of interest; our clients’ interests always come first. And, brokers hold themselves to a “suitability” standard, meaning they are required to sell products that are suitable for a client, even though there may be better alternatives. As a fiduciary, we are held to a higher standard.

Q: Do you have a minimum amount that I need to invest?

A:   Savant Wealth Management provides comprehensive financial planning and wealth management services to high net worth individuals. In order to begin a Wealth Management relationship, you typically need to satisfy only one of the following requirements:

  • Have an investment portfolio of $500,000 within 12 months
  • Anticipate $1,000,000 portfolio within 5 years
  • Be an immediate family member of a client with portfolio over $5,000,000
  • Satisfy a minimum fee of $5,000 per year for investment management

We also offer Portfolio services for those with less complex needs or smaller portfolios, those who are new to investing, and retirees with 401(k) rollovers.

Q: Can you draft a trust document for me?

A: While we do have attorneys on staff who can advise you, we do not draft legal documents. We are happy to refer you to an attorney who can.

Q: Can you do my taxes?

A: Yes. Savant Tax & Consulting, a wholly owned subsidiary of Savant Capital, LLC, offers tax preparation services for Savant’s wealth management clients. We have CPAs and Masters of Taxation on staff to help with tax notices and IRS questions. There is an additional fee for tax preparation.

Q: What investments do you use?

A: Savant uses low-cost, institutional mutual funds and index funds to create 10 model portfolios, ranging from 20% equity up to 100% equity. Each portfolio is globally diversified across stock, bond, and alternative asset classes.
