Larry Heller serves as managing partner and financial advisor at our Melville, New York, office and focuses on building resilient financial plans that support long-term independence and retirement readiness. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®), Larry is knowledgeable in numerous areas of financial planning, including wealth transfer and philanthropy, proactive income and estate tax planning, corporate retirement planning, business succession planning, and advanced investment strategies.
His introduction to financial planning came early. At 19, following the death of his father, Larry stepped into a central role in helping his mother restructure the family’s finances while identifying ways to fund college educations for both him and his sister. The experience revealed a natural aptitude for financial planning and investing, and it set the direction for his future career. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boston University.
Larry began his professional path at Coopers & Lybrand, then one of the Big Eight accounting firms, where he earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. He later joined a large brokerage firm, an experience that proved formative in a different way. There, he encountered what he viewed as a fundamental misalignment between client needs and firm priorities. That realization prompted him to pursue the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional designation and ultimately chart a new course.
He went on to found Heller Wealth Management with a clear mission: align the firm’s success directly with the success of its clients. From the start, he built the practice around comprehensive planning, disciplined investment strategies, and a strong emphasis on cash flow, retirement income, and long-term financial planning. He began working at Savant in 2026 when Heller joined the firm.
He strives to translate complex financial topics into clear, practical guidance. Larry has also built a national profile as a commentator and educator. He hosts the popular podcast Retirement Unlocked, where he explores retirement planning, behavioral finance, and real-world strategies for building durable financial lives.
Larry is also the author of Retire Right: Lots of People Retire Wrong. Learn How to Retire Right, a book that features a straightforward approach to retirement planning. He has written articles for, or been quoted extensively in, leading outlets including Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Bloomberg Wealth Management, MarketWatch, and Financial Planning Magazine. His television and radio appearances include Yahoo Finance TV, Good Day New York, CNN, and The Jim Bohannon Show.
Forbes has recognized Larry as a Best-in-State Wealth Advisor for seven consecutive years, including 20261.
Away from client work and media appearances, Larry maintains an active life. He still delivers a competitive serve on the tennis court, embraces both the challenge and reward of golf, and enjoys cycling on his Peloton. At home, he spends time with his turntable and a curated collection of classic rock records. He is also a regular at New York Mets games, often joined by his three adult sons, who share his enthusiasm for sports.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Center for Financial Planning, Inc. owns and licenses the certification marks CFP® in the United States to Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., which authorizes individuals who successfully complete the organization's initial and ongoing certification requirements to use the certification marks.
