Mary Young is a senior manager of Tax & Consulting, where she focuses on serving high-net-worth individuals and small business owners from the firm’s Plano, Texas, office. She also supports clients and colleagues in Oklahoma City. She started working at Savant in 2026 when Exencial Wealth Advisors became part of the firm.
Mary works closely with financial advisors and tax clients on federal and state tax matters, corporate compliance, payroll, and accounting considerations. She leads and mentors a growing tax team, supervises a team of professionals during peak season, and provides final review and sign-off on completed tax returns. She also meets with prospective clients and prepares tax engagement quotes, helping to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
Her background includes extensive work with closely held businesses, multi-entity structures, and ongoing tax planning strategies. She regularly advises clients beyond filing season, helping them stay organized, compliant, and proactive as their businesses evolve. Her work often includes guidance on accounting processes, payroll questions, and cash flow considerations tied to tax planning.
Before joining Exencial in 2022 as senior manager of tax and consulting, Mary spent 13 years at Milbern Ray & Company LLP in Southlake, Texas, where she served as a CPA. There, she reviewed tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, estates, trusts, and nonprofit organizations. Her responsibilities also included Texas franchise tax filings, audit and review fieldwork support, payroll review, and preparation of pro forma and projected financial statements.
Earlier in her career, Mary worked at Waskom, Brown, and Associates LLC in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she advanced to accounting supervisor. Her work included preparing individual and business tax returns, reviewing staff-prepared returns, assisting with tax planning, and training clients and staff on new accounting and tax software systems.
Mary earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting services and business management from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She holds Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licenses in Texas and Louisiana.
She participates in a weekly Bible study group and enjoys reading, especially Christian fiction. Mary lives in the country near her husband’s family and enjoys spending time outdoors, watching birds and local wildlife. She and her husband, Mike, have two grown children, Michael and Isabella, along with dogs, chickens, and a cat.
